The good is that my birthday is tomorrow and I will be 76! I can't believe I've lived this long. The bad part is I have had sciatica for 3 days now and if I move a certain way it feels like someone hit me with a cattle prod and I literally yell out loud. It wakes me up several times in the night but today I finally called the doc and he prescribed a pain reliever as the Tylenol wasn't doing the trick. The ugly part is that Sunday we are supposed to get an ice storm and I need to get firewood in the house and more kindling but with my back/hip I'm not sure how that's going to work. I just got the pain reliever today and they delivered it as I can't drive in this condition....not sure I could even get into my truck. I did manage to sweep out the fireplace a bit and bring some kindling in but I will wait until tomorrow to bring in the firewood. I have plenty in the garage without having to go outside but I'll need kindling as once it rains there won't be any that is dry. I pray we don't lose power.
Meanwhile, I have done some handwork. I'm almost done with the 2nd row on my granny square blanket using the join as you go method. There are 14 squares in each row. This isn't mine but since I can't take pictures anymore this is the designer's blanket and I am following her colors and placement.
I do have a birthday start with a pattern I've had for awhile..........January Wordplay by With Thy Needle and Thread (Brenda Gervais).......she has one for every month too.....It's not too big so hopefully I can finish it this month...........
I made my Goodreads Challenge in 2024 of 52 books actually I read 54 and now I've upped my challenge for this year to 62 books.....we'll see. I'm reading some Leslie Meier "Lucy Stone" mysteries and I'm enjoying them.
What are you enjoying in this quiet time after the holidays?

I love the Lucy Stones!!!!
I'm so sorry your sciatica is acting up. I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes mine goes from the hip to the foot and sometimes from the foot to the hip. I can be fine in my chair, but when my foot touches the ground, it is a lightening bolt.
And when the pain is intolerable, it is intolerable. I remember going to the doctor once. I asked for one pain pill. I couldn't sit, I couldn't stand and I COULDN'T SLEEP. I tried everything. I told her if she could just give me a pill so I could sleep one night - I could manage. She actually gave me a whole bottle which I used one at a time for years.
I hope your medication kicks in soon. I am worried about your wood supply. Be careful.
Thanks for the book recommendation. I am always looking for good c9zy mystery series. So sorry to hear your back is not being kind to you. Hopefully your meds will help quickly. Happy birthday to you a day early. You and my husband are the same age. I al not far behind though. I hope thenice storm does not do horrible damage to the electrical grid. Stay safe and warm.
Happy Birthday tomorrow! I have something I am working on for you and hope to get it in the mail early next week. Sorry it is late...I am behind on a few things1
The happiest of birthdays tomorrow Sam! I predict the medicine will kick in and the pain will go away as your birthday gift from the doctor. I worry about you down there alone. You REALLY need to move up here to Iowa. I hope you can get the wood in with no pain, but be really careful. We're supposed to get that storm tomorrow and Sunday. Of course I have a baby shower Sunday afternoon. I hope it's not too bad because I don't like to drive in that nasty stuff.
I sent you an email but I'm not sure I used the right one. I got it yesterday when Piper was here and she was so excited. It's beautiful and I have it in my wallet where I'll see it often.
Take care of yourself. I get sciatica and I know it's awful.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
Happy Birthday! I remember sciatica - it was awful so I know how you are feeling and hope that it eases soon. I like your new January word project - enjoy. xx
I love the Lucy Stone series by Leslie Meier. I read the entire series and started them all over again last year (but fell off the reading wagon). I too have sciatica issues, but this last trip, messed up my muscles and maybe ligaments. I am dong stretches, and they are almost all the same as the ones I do for sciatica (which helps a lot). I remember I had it so bad, I had to walk with a cane. I sure hope you are feeling much better soon.
We are going to have to wrap you in bubble wrap! Sciatica is no laughing matter. I hope your weather isn’t as bad as predicted. We have only managed a dusting of snow so far, but it’s cold! Is there anyone in the vicinity that could get your kindling/firewood to a point where you can manage it? I know you’re fiercely independent, but….❤️
