The Big D has visited me again........

The diverticulitis has come again so I am "laid low"....I'm actually hoping to feel better soon but meanwhile I am taking antibiotics, pain meds and back to a liquid diet.  I am also sleeping...A LOT!  I have no desire to do anything but hopefully that isn't permanent.  I just thought I would hop on here and  let you know where I've been......in bed.

Happy St. Patty's Day!!!

Grayson,  my little leprechaun just stopped by to wish you a Happy St. Patrick's Day!  Meanwhile Grandma is working to finish her Irish cross stitch and final finish too.  I'm hoping to make it!

I made my corned beef dinner yesterday and I will be eating it again tonight along with an old fashioned chocolate soda!

Here's a video of William and Kate and the Irish Guard today.........

YOP Week #37 Year 12

It was another busy week, doctor appointment, grocery shopping, and a leaky porch roof....again!  It's lasted about 7 years.  I called the roofers but nobody has gotten back to me plus the oven is not reheating so I think maybe the other coil has bit the dust.  I think he only replaced one last time.  I may just get a countertop oven that has everything...toaster oven, regular oven and the new fryer capabilities.  We'll see.

So, I didn't get a lot done.  Well, rather, the things I got done took me a long time.  Plus, I have not had a final finish for 2 weeks now!

I'm trying to finish the Irish XS piece.......it is slow going at 36 count and several 1 over 1 parts.  I am not enjoying this and I will be glad when it is finished.

One thing I am enjoying is Grayson's wolf XS.  I am stitching it on 14 count Aida by Cosmo (from Japan) and it is the most wonderful fabric I've ever stitched on!  It's almost silky.....I want to try their floss now.............this is an off white fabric and I am working on the muzzle of the wolf right now....that is not black floss...it is 2 different shades of navy blue..........they're hard to tell apart they are so close in color.....

I received my basket materials in the mail.........I need to ensure I have lots of free time to work on it as it requires soaking the reeds and then weaving them....wish me luck as I have never done this before.....

My biggest accomplishment this week was finishing Block #1 of my Block of the Month red and cream quilt.............. I have made quilts with squares but never created blocks before..........except when I took a beginner quilting class years ago...........this block is not perfect but I am really proud of it.........

Yesterday, I cut out the  pieces for Block #2...........and hopefully I'll work on it today...........I label all the pieces and clip them together otherwise you have to go back and measure them all again.....ask me how I know! LOL!

The doctor appointment went well.  They gave me an oral test to see if I had alzheimers and/or dementia or had suffered a stroke.  I passed with flying colors!  Yay!  He told me it is basically to get a baseline so they have something to compare to when I get tested again....to see when I start "slipping"! LOL! Since I am sort of nutty anyway, I'm not sure they would be able to tell.

This next week I need to get the car in for an oil change and a check up.  I need to send the grands some St. Patrick's Day "treasures" and get the ingredients for corned beef and cabbage! Yum!  I'm hoping to get Block #2 done, and finish and final finish my Irish XS.  It's supposed to be rain free for the majority of the week so I would like to do some trimming and burning outside.

Do you have plans for St. Patrick's Day?

Happy Trails!!!

Terrific Tuesday!!!

Every time I hear the word "terrific" I think of Tom Terrific from back in the day.  I can't even remember if it was a cartoon or a comic strip. There wasn't much on T.V. when I was young.  Anyway, I had a productive day of cleaning and organizing.  I am getting rid of stuff and some just goes to the basement while other things go to the car to be dropped off at the thrift store.  Nothing photo worthy but it sure feels good and looks good....to me at least.

I did receive my first Flower Letters letter.......I'll read it tonight when I go to bed..........

I also signed up for an embroidery sampler subscription book.  I have embroidery to do and realized I have forgotten how to do even the simplest of stitches.  The Sew 'n Sews, Nancy and Kathy are doing it and they said it is really good and they are learning a lot.  When you're done you have a book filled with all your stitches that you've learned through videos.  Here's a link  to the site if you're interested.  They have lots of other things on their site too.

Well, the day is done for me and time for pj's and supper and handwork and reading my Flower Letter plus watch a few podcasts!
 Happy Trails!!!

Beautiful Monday!

Sunny, blue skies, and 78 F!!!  This is how it goes down here.....heat straight to AC!  It was a pretty productive Monday.  I did laundry, got the garbage out for pickup in the morning.  I made cinnamon rolls, and Rice Krispie Treats.  I had some calls to make and more tomorrow.  The oven is on the blink again and the porch roof is leaking as of the rain storm the other night.  It's always something when you're a home owner!

I did get some treasures........the fabric for XS finally arrived and I started Grayson's wolf..........

I also  received a book I had pre-ordered months ago.........it's by Susan Ache and it is quilting AND cross stitch..........the best of both worlds..............

I also ordered a prim bunny and egg pattern on Etsy and I'm hoping to make some before Easter.  they look simple enough.

That's all for today....I'm going to get my pj's on and watch some podcasts....The Sew and Sews have a new one and also I found The Primitive Stitcher and she's really good.  She has tutorials too.

Happy Trails!!!

YOP Week #36 Year 12

The trees and flowers are blooming so Spring is definitely showing up here in the Ozarks!  Of course, we also get the severe storms in the Spring but so far so good here in my town.  Prayers go out to those further South who had some deadly storms and also those with the severe snow storms and no power!

I had a good week but didn't get a lot done.  I'm still plugging away.  I did not get Block #1 done as I ran out of thread!  LOL!  I couldn't believe it.  I had to make an emergency trip to Walmart!  So, hopefully, I will finish Block #1 today and get Block #2 cut out for my Red and Cream quilt.  I  was so proud of myself as I made flying geese which I have never done before and they turned out!

I worked on my Irish XS and figured out how much to do each day so I would have it done and fully finished by St. Patrick's Day.  So, this is my focus piece until done.  I am ahead of schedule so I will work on my Sabbath Stitch today.  This is not a very good picture.....

I have been starting all kinds of new projects.  I have no idea what got into me but they were just too hard to resist! LOL!  I subscribed to another Block of the Month club but this one is a wool applique quilt of A Little Women's Christmas inspired by Louisa May Alcott........Block #1 is Christmas in Concord....
it comes with all the materials/wool..........

Block #2 is Orchard House...

with all the materials needed........

I've done wool applique before and I really enjoy it..............

Something new that I am looking forward to that I have never done before is basket making..........I have ordered a kit for a market basket from Joanna's Baskets  This is the one I have ordered but the painting and antiquing supplies do not come with it but she has tutorials on her website for how to do everything.  I found out about it from Michelle at Farmgirl Drygoods and she has done several and says the instructions are wonderful and very clear.

That's all the crafting I got done.  I'm still waiting for the material for the XS projects.  I hope to plan out my other projects like I did the Irish XS so I can finish them in a timely manner.  The quilts will be 2 blocks/month each....I think.  I need to plan out the sock, Grayson's wolf, and more.

I did do a bit more decorating for St. Patrick's Day............here's my Irish cow that my daughter got me years ago.......

my little Irish cottage direct from Ireland..........looks like the one my relative's had....unfortunately I lost the picture of it.........

this is my Lucky Charms porcelain box from Ireland..........

Sam, returned from the Academic Decathon for state and his team got 2nd place in Science!  He is a freshman but was on the Varsity team.....I think he was happy about it! LOL!

Congratulations to all who participated, especially Sam!  Way to go!  Grandma is proud of you!

Here's a little "funny" that I thought I would share with you........

Happy Trails!!!

Lots to talk about......

First of all, please say a prayer for my daughter who is having some health issues and we're hoping it turns out to be nothing but she has to go to GI doctor to see.  I'll keep you informed.

Other than that the grands are doing fantastic!  I'm not usually one to brag but this time I have to....no credit to me....they deserve the credit.  Sam is a freshman in high school and is doing great.  He is very smart and is on the academic decathalon team and now they are going to the state competition!  It is grueling, in my opinion, but he loves it.  It is tests and essays, and speaking.  I always had test anxiety but Sam loves it!  Better him than me.  It's this coming weekend in Urbandale, a suburb of Desmoines. I'm sending many positive thoughts with him and his team.

As for the other grand, Grayson.  He won first place in the Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby!  He also graduated from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts.  They had a celebration dinner and the boys had to shop and cook the dinner.  They made walking tacos.......

He's cooking with his good friend, Caleb.............

As for here, I have been doing some serious cleaning and de-cluttering.  I also decorated for St. Patrick's Day.  I don't have too many decorations for it but I managed...........oh, I forgot my Irish cow and trinket dish plus my Irish cottage from Ireland.....I'll post that another day.  I did have a Belleek dish that my Computer Science professor and his wife gave me  when I graduated but Miss Peeps broke it.....

Since I didn't have too many Irish decorations, I threw in some Spring birds.......lol!

It's been raining this afternoon but per usual, the real storms won't show up until after dark.  There are wind warnings, flood warnings and tornado warnings but they are west and south of here and I hope they stay there!  I always pray no one gets hurt and no damage to homes.  So many here have no insurance.  I hope you are safe and comfortable where you are!

Happy Trails!!!
