I had company last week and it did not bode well with me. I am not physically or mentally capable of entertaining.....especially not days on end nor with guests that treat me like the hired help. But I seem to have recovered, although the doc saw me this morning and said the stress is definitely not good for me and I agree! He wants me to call him Monday and let him know how I'm feeling. I am so blessed to have him as my doctor. So, now that the entertaining is over with...........I'm going to be following this advice......
Years ago I read a book that talked about balance in your life and she talked about creating 9 boxes....that form a square with 3 on top, 3 in the middle, and 3 on the bottom. Then you were to fill in the boxes with the most important areas of your life. Things that if accomplished would keep your life balanced and harmonious. I did it for years as I had many balls in the air. Life is much calmer now, in retirement but I'm thinking I will go back to those boxes. I tend to work on the same areas of my life but never get to other ones. It worked before and I'm hoping it will work again so that I can have balance in my elder years. Right now my 9 boxes consist of the following areas: cleaning, finances, selfcare, creating, gardening, maintenance, decorating, learning, and clearing out. I will try and touch on each area within each week.I'm on my 3rd Lorna Landvik book! That girl can write! Really enjoying them. Finishing up watching Doc Martin series and then it will be back to Father Brown. Have a great weekend!
Happy Trails!!!

Guests should not behave like that -=- especially family . . .but you coped!
I like the 9 boxes idea - hope it works for you.
I'm sorry your company did not take care of YOU instead of acting like you were the activity director and hired help. I am glad you have such a great doctor and hopefully can rest and resume now that they have gone.
I am looking at the 2026 Susan Branch calendars. I see she just listed them for sale and I am trying to understand how that is possible. The months just zip by!!!
I feel like I am floating with no rudder. I like the idea of the nine boxes. I remember doing an activity once where you did a film strip with boxes of what you were working toward. It helped me gain some perspective . I might try the nine boxes.
Take care of yourself!!! One day at a time, girlfriend.
Oh Sam, I'm sorry that the visit wasn't what you wanted, needed or expected. Sometimes people just don't get it and expect you to be able to do all of the things that you were once able to do with no issues. I know I've had some of the same experiences with people not understanding my issues. I'm blessed to have Dennis to mediate. He does most everything physical around here and I'm able to just enjoy the fruits of his labors! :-) Your doctor definitely sounds like a keeper. There aren't many like that out there these days.
Take care my friend and rest.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
So lucky to have such an attentive doc. I've found saying 'no' now and again helps with unreasonable requests and it's surprising how alternative arrangements can be found when they're required! Enjoy the calm and rest up guilt-free!
So sorry your company was so stressful, take good care of you! You should have just gone to bed and stayed there!
Thank you for your support....I was feeling pretty alone in my assessment.
Miss Merry, I wish you lived next Door! I can always relate to you. Thank you for your support.
Thank you so much Betsy, you make me feel much better about the situation....it was very hurtful.
I did say no twice but my daughter kept saying it would be fine but the guest she brought with made it "not so fine"...lol!
LOL! You've got that right! I did after they left!
I know exactly what you mean about having guests. I'm sorry that happened and I hope you have fully recovered. Sounds like you have a wonderful doctor. Those are hard to find these days! I like the 9 squares excercise. I'm going to look it up...I need to do something to improve my schedule and get to more of the tasks that need attention.
