YOP Week #22

Finishing up some things.....finally!  The Frida Kahlo basket is done!  I am a little disappointed as the stiffener used is not holding the bag up as much as I would wish.  It is sagging a bit.  Oh well, I'm sure once it is stuffed with things it will stand straight.

It is a big bag!  About 14 to 15 inches on each side and the bottom.  It will hold a lot!

I'm almost done with the ornaments............I put the initials and date on each of them...

I broke out my old rag rug and sewed more strips together so I could crochet them into the rug..........I sewed a ball of red print strips together which will get crocheted into the rug today..........

I  don't have any "haul" but I did order my sock yarn for my Christmas Eve cast on.  It is called "Whoville" from the movie The Grinch.  I still have my Christmas Day project to kit up and supplies to order for my Christmas presents to me.  I have so many plans for this coming YOP!  I know we don't start until July but I think a New Year evaluation and some additions  might be in order.  Not only because of the New Year but also there is my birthday, January 4th, which is always a time for me to set my goals for the year and beyond.  So, I am gathering ideas............

These are cute little burp cloths for baby gifts or fancy cleaning rags! LOL!

Pretty washcloths...........

This quilt would be quite an undertaking but it is beautiful!

This coming week I am hoping to finish up all the Christmas projects, wrap everything and get it out in the mail.  There's decorating and Christmas cards and cleaning too.  For the grands this year I decided on getting them the Disney channel.  Between online learning and Covid and the long Iowa winters, I thought it would help keep their spirits lifted.  They're not big t.v. watchers and they love the outdoors but this year has been a bit different so hopefully they will like it.

That's all for this week....I'm still eating leftovers and loving it!  More time for crafting!

Happy Trails!!!

A day late and a dollar short!!!

I got busy this morning cooking as I didn't make much yesterday except pumpkin pie.  For Thanksgiving anyway.  So the turkey (breast) is cooked...

the cranberry sauce is made..........

the sweet potato casserole is ready to go in the oven......

and the white potatoes are cooking...........

I did look online to see if there were any sales that I would be interested in but nothing was free.  I dragged out my rag rug to work on again and sewed more strips together..........

I got a sweet Thanksgiving card from my daughter and her family.............

I found myself already making plans for 2021!  I am ahead of schedule this year instead of behind like usual.  I was thinking of projects I've wanted to do but have neglected writing them down so they never show up on my radar.......no longer!  I am writing them down for sure now in a place on my pc where they will not get "lost".

Such as......a fusion blanket......here's the tutorial

and this family tree........no instructions but I think it's fairly easy to copy..............

Planning is half the fun!

Speaking of fun...here's a little humor for today..........

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I hope you are all safe and well and enjoying this Thanksgiving Day 2020.  I started out the day with this beautiful sight out my front window........

It cleared off fast and it's a lovely day here in the Ozarks.  I got busy making salsa to put on my Cheesy Eggs that is a wonderful recipe I got from Mama Pea....yum...............

After brunch I went on to make pumpkin pie..........

I decided against the turkey for today as I have one more meal of stuffed squash and Waldorf salad to finish so I'll make the turkey tomorrow along with the sides.

I worked on my Coming to America cross stitch............

I browsed the web looking for a Christmas quilt to make or a pattern using my Christmas fabrics...........here are a few I liked............just something small and simple...........

I was inspired by the latest podcast by Celeste Creates..........she had some darling Christmas quilts that were so inspiring!  I say every year that I am going to make a Christmas quilt of some sort but so far I haven't.  Maybe this year will be different.

I also searched on You Tube and found Thanksgiving music and movies!  They even had the 2020 Thanksgiving Day parade to watch.  It's virtual for everyone this year.

I'll leave you with a little humor........

Happy Thanksgiving Eve!!!

It rained all night last night so no worries about fire danger.  Today I had to get my prescriptions and then do regular chores.  This afternoon I made homemade queso.  I hope it tastes better after a  night in the frig.  I wasn't impressed....Tostitos is better.  Here's  a new bird at the feeder

I got 2 beautiful cards in the mail...........one from Connie....her beautiful handmade

creation.........

and my first Christmas card of the season from Betsy...thank you both so much!!!

Now for some lightheartedness.....

Wally World today and there's no TP!

Actually, to be honest there is but it is the commercial kind and the last time I got it I just about rubbed myself raw using it!  It's one thing to use it once in awhile when you are out and about but it's a whole other issue when you use it day in and day out!  I have plenty for now so I will hope  they have more of the good stuff when I go back in 2 weeks!  They did have the soft Kleenex so if push comes to shove I'll use that! LOL!

This  morning the sky was on fire........"pink sky at night sailor's delight, pink sky at dawning sailor's warning"  and sure enough the forecast was storms later today.  Thank goodness I got my groceries picked up and unloaded beforehand....from the weather report there's a cold front coming through and there could be some severe storms.  I got batteries for the weather radio just in the nick of time!

I have not done much that is blog worthy as I am working on Christmas gifts which can only be shown on Sunday when they know they are not to view the YOP blog post.  My posts will pick up again a soon as I finish those gifts!

Meanwhile the bird feeder has been busy.....usually mid-day.........I'm trying to get pictures but they fly in and fly out pretty fast!  This was a cardinal.............

My grandson sent me this in an email this morning.  He and I are early risers so I usually hear from him before he starts school.  Too cute!

Tomorrow it's  time to start cooking for Thanksgiving!  Yesterday I made stuffed acorn squash with a Waldorf salad.....it was delish.  I finished watching a wonderful series which will be back next season on Acorn.  It was The Good Karma Hospital.  So good with just the right balance of drama, humor, and romance with gorgeous photography of India.  I'm off to put my feet up now and relax!  All that disinfecting is tiring!

Happy Trails!!!

YOP Week #21

2 ornaments done except for the final finish............

Most of this past week has been spent on the Frida Kahlo basket.....what a project!  It just goes on and on and on but I am nearing the end.  I sewed all the lining pieces with stiffener inside them and hand sewed them closed.  Then I had to hand sew each of them to the crocheted squares.  Then I crocheted the "box" together and 3 rows of SC on the top.  I only have the handles to finish now and hopefully that will happen today.

I have ends to weave in too.  The last thing I need to finish is the Dala horse pincushion and I need to find or order some cute pins to put in it.  After that, I am done except for wrapping.  Almost all the other presents have arrived.  I am not going to be making anything for others as I do not do good on deadlines.  It takes the joy out of it.  I'll continue to make ornaments for the grands but that's all everything else will be bought.  I need to order yarn for the Christmas Eve sock cast on and I need to kit up The Christmas List which is a cross stitch for Christmas Day and then after I finish the gifts I will be working on Coming To America for Thanksgiving.  I also need to order some supplies to make project bags for myself.  Plus, I can get back to my hexies!  Yay!

I hope all my U.S. friends have a great Thanksgiving and stay safe!

Happy Trails!!!

Santa's Workshop is in full swing!

I got all my Christmas orders in yesterday finally and the list is FINAL!  I have to get things shipped by the10th because my daughter and I do the Advent Calendar.  It is the annual "Christmas Crunch"!  But I think I am doing okay this year but we'll see.  I am not making as much as I usually do so that helps.

I filled the bird bath today and they were enjoying it.  I don't fill it during the summer because of mosquitoes. Yesterday I had a very special surprise.....a scarlet tanager was at my feeder!  There's no mistaking them with their black wings and tail and red body!  They're gorgeous!  I thought they were an Eastern bird but maybe he was migrating.  They say they are not seen very often so I felt very lucky indeed!  I think it was the orange segments I put out there.

In between Santa's workshop hours I did manage to clear out the beans in the horse trough and since I've been doing "crafting" I  have been reading on my "breaks".  I finished a couple more........this one I've had for years and it is small so I was able to read it in one day!  It's a good book to spur you on!

Then I read Yarn to Go which was a very good mystery.......this is by the same woman who writes crochet mysteries but this one is about knitting......

Now, I 'm reading this one................I  have read 43 of my 75 book challenge for this year and I have 32 books left to read.....woe is me.......it will be the 3rd year I haven't met my goal.....maybe I should lower it this coming year.

Here are some seasonal add-ons.............

Happy Trails!!!
